Dear Jenna,

As you’ve seen, I haven’t really been active with Project Jerusalem lately since moving out to New York, working full-time and turning my attention to new endeavors (which you can read about on my main blog here. However, I am still sending the film out to festivals and will update here with any related news.

The festival was great and although we couldn’t stay long, we were able to see a few other great films and meet the festival director, who was nice enough to give us a personal tour of the Historic Colony Theater.

The theater was built in 1911 ( 17 years before the Michigan Theater!) and had one of the first air conditioning systems in the mid-west. After years of amazing performances by entertainers, politicians, and celebrities, the theater closed in 1985 due to a lack of attendance and high heating costs. After the screening of  Project Jerusalem I had a Q & A session. People asked great questions regarding content, style, & my trip to Israel. All in all, a great trip and the film won Best Documentary, so I couldn’t be happier!

In good news….I just found out yesterday that I have been accepted into the Colony Film Festival which is held at the historic Colony Theater in Marietta, Ohio. For details on the festival, please go to http://www.colonytheatre.com/schedule/colony_film_festival.

Unfortunately, I’m not sure if I can attend, but I will keep this blog updated with any information regarding the festival and Project Jerusalem. I am also in the process of writing a new feature-length film in the form of an essay film, similar to PJ. I will post information about the project as well.

I still have DVDs for donation if you want to help me send out the film to more festivals. I am asking $10, but whatever you can give… $2… $5… anything helps! Send me an email at hill.jennamarie@gmail.com if you are interested.

ALSO.. the DVD is now available and so far people have been amazing in donating and helping me raise some money to send Project Jerusalem to film festivals. I am asking for a $10 donation, but anything helps.. or if you just want a copy of the DVD, let me know!

The big move to New York is less than a week away. Hopefully great things are to come!

I received confirmation that my submission to the LA shorts festival was received ….. and now the wait.

Currently I am in the process of designing the DVD and having them printed so that they can be available for people who are interested.

I am also submitting it to Women Make Movies, a “multicultural, multiracial, non-profit media arts organization which facilitates the production, promotion, distribution and exhibition of independent films and videotapes by and about women.” I had first heard about this organization through seeing Professor Ruth Behar’s film, Adio Kerida, which was distributed through WMM. If you are a female independent filmmaker, I highly encourage you to look into their website at

Their belief is that “women’s media, in both traditional and non-traditional forms, presents social, political, and aesthetic visions of women that are not generally available in mainstream media. Reflecting an understanding of women’s experience, women’s independent films and videotapes reveal the complexity and diversity of women’s lives and artistic visions. We remain steadfast in our belief that media can inform and engage, inspire action and challenge reigning perspectives.”
